In advance of Minister Nelson McCausland’s announcement last week (see previous post by Kate Ward) that he plans to break up the Northern Ireland Housing Executive, Nicola Browne of the Participation and Practice of Rights (PPR) organisation reflected on poverty and housing in north Belfast when she took the speaker’s mic at the RightsNI Live event last month.
Speaking in the surroundings of Crumlin Road Gaol, she questionned the Minister’s controversial plans for the Girdwood site, in the gaol’s immediate vicinity, saying:
You can’t make political progress at the expense of the most unequal in our society and on the backs of the poor.
